Public Service Announcements Make Hand Washing Fun!
HopeForHealth.org / Clean Freak Patrol PSAs Available Now for TV, Radio, Internet and Print Media

Toronto, February 16, 2007 – The Hope for Health research foundation, in conjunction with Clean Freak Patrol Ltd. has produced a series of Public Service Announcements (PSA) to help remind kids to wash their hands in a fun and entertaining way. The campaign features Clean Freak Patrol: Superheroes of the MicroWorld! a team of cartoon characters zapping germs with the message “Remember to wash your hands – Spread the word, not the germs!”. Hope for Health and Clean Freak Patrol have made the PSAs available to be picked up by broadcast and publishing media in various formats – versions of the PSAs are available in 30 second Television, 15 second Radio, and various print and web banner formats. Broadcasters and publishers are invited to include the PSAs in their programming in order to deliver this important message to children and adults alike.

Health care agencies have emphasized that proper hand hygiene is the single most-important infection prevention and control practice to reduce the spread of germs and illnesses including the common cold. Children, young people, and, in fact, every Canadian citizen should be aware of how much a simple hand washing habit can do to reduce their exposure to harmful germs and bacteria. By spreading the word about hand washing, the campaign will help prevent the spread of light and serious illness in our community.

The Clean Freak Patrol/Hope for Health Public Service Announcements have been approved for Children’s Viewing by Advertising Standards Canada and the Television Bureau of Canada (TVB). Once children see the amazing happenings in the MicroWorld, they will not think twice about washing their hands. Combat, Missy, Karate and Princess Fairy fight the ‘Germsquad’ through various adventures in the schoolyard, the classroom and other locations.
A free Clean Freak Patrol MP3 is also available for downloading at www.cleanfreakpatrol.com – the song, called ‘Everybody Tell Somebody’, has been produced by Dean Jarvis, bassist and musical director for Nell Furtado.

The Clean Freak Patrol will soon be appearing in a series of short ‘Micro-Movie’ episodes that will be coming to television and the Internet in 2007.

Clean Freak Patrol wants to create a safe learning environment for children,
where they can learn about the dangers posed by germs and bacteria without being exposed to the fear and paranoia of the adult media. It is important for children to understand the serious global health issues posed by things like H5N1 ‘Bird’ Flu and SARS, but these issues need to be approached in a sensitive manner that will not scare children unnecessarily. Clean Freak Patrol provides a ‘Fun Solution to a Serious Problem’, teaching children about health and hygiene while at the same time entertaining and showing them that the ‘Microworld’ can be a fun and interesting place.
